Turquoise Summertime Blues!

I got the Turquoise Summertime Blues! Swimming pools, guitars, nail polish, and the color the summer afternoon sky~ This has been such a sweet summer. My trip to Spain was rockin! I performed at the The Screamin' Rockabilly festival near Barcelona in a place called Calella by the ocean. I shared the stage once again with my favorite singing partner Marti Brom who ripped it up royally! It was our tribute to the late great Janis Martin, we are keeping her spirit alive and it was amazing to see tears in the audience as Marti tore through a deeply hearted version of Sweet Dreams, one of the song Janis recorded on "The Blanco Sessions" CD. Afterwards I got to take some time to relax in the mountains of Tiana overlooking the city of Badalona in the Catalonian part of Spain. The wine and the cheese as well as the people were extraordinary and I can't wait to go back again. I spent some time at the end of June in Nashville Tennessee writing and performing. That was a hoot performing on the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree with one of my heros, James Intveld and his awesome band. James and I got to revisit some of the duets that we performed at the Doheny Blues Fest in California several weeks ago and I do hope we get to record together again in the future. July will certainly be a super busy and fun time in Austin with lots of local gigs but am looking forward to getting back to the Bay Area for the last weekend of this month. Cooler weather is always a nice break from the hot Texas sun. August will take us to Minneapolis and surrounding areas and September we head to the New York area. So lots of travel in the plans over the next few months. Nevertheless it's great to be here in Austin where Texas summers are always a little too hot but at least I have the pleasure of jumping into any ol' great big turquoise swimming pool here and there or Barton Springs if I really wanna cool off! Have an enjoyable Summertime wherever you are and thanks for stopping by to see what's up in my world. Thanks so much for stopping by here at the website. See ya down the road at a live gig here or there or listen to me on Spotify, Pandora, Sirius Radio or in your own CD players or mp3 players too. Rock on! cheers, rosie

The Blue Moon Jazz Quartet

You can come to Austin's premier jazz venue The Elephant Room and listen to some of the greatest jazz instrumentalists and vocalists around. I am thrilled that my Blue Moon Jazz Quartet is apprearing there on a Thursday each month for Happy Hour 6 to 8pm. I started singing standards and covers by some of the greats starting way back when I was living in Los Angeles in the late 90's and it wasn't until i teamed up with these extraordinary players, T Jarrod Bonta on piano, Jim Stringer on guitar and Randall Glines on upright bass that I got a chance to sing all of my favorite classic jazz standards again. Our arrangements are unique and it's swonderful and smarvelous to do what I love doing which is to sing jazz songs and listen to the guys play so beautifully as we all perform together as The Blue Moon Jazz Quartet. Check here at my tour dates page to see when our next performances will be!

Thanks to Dale Watson for giving me a chance to win 2 Ameripolitan Awards last week! ROCKABILLY AND HONKY TONK FEMALE~There is a wave of appreciation pouring out to me for the years that I've been out here promoting women in Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson, Janis Martin, Marti Brom, to name a few. Thanks for the #2 spot, but I do not feel that I deserve a number 2 spot here, maybe 8 or 9?. I thought I'd explain a little here where I come from to the younger audiences out there who may also disagree with my spot as number 2. I started a rockabilly band in San diego in 1979 called the Reboppin' Screamers and it was so difficult to find players there who understood the genre and the sound, the dress etc... I then moved to LA and started searching out others who were in it and found Levi Dexter and his band the Rockats, Ray Campi, last but not least James Intveld. I found a home at the Palamino club and after being influenced by Gary Stewart the Honky Tonk singer from Kentucky/Florida, I found my voice somewhere between Tanya Tucker and Gene Vincent. I became a Screamin' Siren and played smash up rockabilly guitar for Pleasant Gehman and learned more about the British Rockabilly bands and went out on my own from there landing a deal with WB/Reprise Records out of Nashville. The label told me that rockabilly was the kiss of death on radio (this was just before the Stray Cats broke out) so they tamed me down to a clean country sound but I recorded with Pete Anderson as a producer ( Dwight Yoakam) and James Intveld as well as Greg Leisz and Donald Lindley so my sound was appreciated all around the world and here in the states. I recorded a country Wanda Jackson and Carl Perkins song so I could still pay tribute to my influences without stirring up too much trouble. Before long the label dropped me anyway for being too different even though the James Intveld song "Crying Over You entered the Billboard Charts and gave me a name in Europe and here. The label decided to push kd Lang instead of me and the rest is just rosie history. I've stayed on the road never giving up my career in music. I've played just about every dancehall and honky tonk, festival, European markets included, ever since. I'm over 60 years old (hush hush cause I don't look it) but I still feel like I'm the 16 year old girl who started Penelope's Children in my parents garage in the late 60's using my brothers gear. So I'm happy to be appreciated because lord knows how long I've been doing this. However with the musical influences that have crossed my life, starting with Jazz, Rockabilly, Motown, Surf, Blues, Pop, Punk, Country and Honky Tonk. I don't want to be put in a bag of one sound...even though I so appreciate the rockabilly category #2 spot, it is just part of who I am and there are other female's out there who are probably more deserving of a higher mark here especially the early pioneer women as well as the newer Marti Brom, Imelda Mae and Kim Lenz. Thanks for following, appreciating and digging my sounds. sincerely, Rosie Flores

Giving Thanks and heading to The Holidays!

Hey! check out my new video Yeah Yeah, a tribute to Duane Jarvis -Directed by Yuri Figueroa. Yeah Yeah is a song from my latest cd "Working Girl's Guitar" available at BloodshotRecords.com I've been loving spending time in Abingdon, Virginia on my retreat and working on my memoirs. My book will hopefully be finished in a couple of months and I will start looking for a publisher! It's nice to be in Virginia, it's a beautiful change from Austin, although I do miss my home. What's also great about this retreat is that I'm getting a chance to rest my voice completely. At this point I have not spoken since Nov. 2nd. so I am hopeful that I can avoid surgery because I'm planning on performing a lot in 2014 both with my Jazz quartet and my rockin' band in Austin. The year starts with a bang! On January 9th, I'll be performing on stage for one of my favorite guitar players Albert Lee, for his birthday celebration with a wonderful lineup of amazing guitar players. Then January 11th back in Austin with Alejandro Escovedo at the Moody theater with another stellar line up of songwriters and musicians. I'm going to stick around for a couple of months and then planning to hit the road for various tours; like Spain with Marti Brom to continue promoting "The Blanco Sessions" that I produced for Janis Martin- and we'll see what comes up for the New year! But before that, Next month, I'm looking forward to doing several Christmas dates with the fabuloso El Vez! The Latino Elvis! A lot of fun will be had at our Holiday spirited Merry Mexmas shows on the west coast. I will be promoting my Christmas Cd "Christmasville", you can pick one up here at this site for your holiday party or to fill your favorite rosie fan's stocking!! I'm grateful for everyone in my life, I keep my heart filled with gladness that i get to do what I do. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays my friends! cheers, rosie

Autumn leaves continue to Fall

Hi Everybody! I'm excited to announce that I am about to release a new music video for my song "Yeah Yeah" from my latest "Working Girls Guitar" CD and LP. It is nearly finished and will be ready to post and share asap. The song "yeah Yeah" was co-written with, Pat Gallagher and Rachel Gladstone one afternoon in Nashville when we all decided to get together and write the day before Duane Jarvis's memorial concert at the Basement. The song is dedicated for our close buddy, Duane because we feel like he was in the room adding a line or two no kidding! The song has beautiful meaning and power with a sweet message. "Love makes everyone a part of everything...yeah yeah" I'm taking some time off in a small town in Virginia right now to rest my voice and to finish writing my book of short stories titled "Wacky Truckstop Candy and Road Stories". This is the coolest thing I've ever done. I'm having a tough time keeping quiet but so far so good! Writing prose has been a passion of mine for sometime and I can't wait to let ya'll in on a few inside stories about being a young woman in a rock n roll band on the road without a manager or a husband. January's calendar is starting to fill up starting in Agora Hills, Ca with sensational guitarist Albert Lee and then to Austin with a great songwriter Alejandro Escovedo! Thanks for checking in and have a wonderful Autumn wherever you are! rfxo

New Year, New Fun!

Hey everybody! Just got back from the NAMM show in Anaheim, Ca. Had lots of fun hanging at the James Trussart Guitar booth jamming with the cool and great Earl Slick as well as Rockabilly legend Danny B. Harvey and also Bobby Cochran (Eddie Cochran's nephew). Also enjoyed my time hanging at Gretsch Guitars and Taylor Guitars where all the energy of the day kept buzzing with music and friendly musician types. With all the guitar press and appreciation surrounding me, (Guitar Player Mag. Jan issue and Premier Guitar latest issue) it's great to finally be considered a guitar player after all these years by the industry, and it's about time cause I've been playing lead guitar since my first all girl band that I started in 1966 "Penelope's children" and later on in the 80's, the Screamin' Sirens out of Hollywood. Anyway, I'm having a blast now. The year started off with a fun show at the Moody Theater in Austin celebrating 35 years of the music of Alejandro Escovedo Who invited me to do a couple of his songs. I love the "Velvet Guitar" song that i performed and you can find our performance on Youtube and share in the excitement if you put in: rosie flores velvet guitar. If this first month of the year is any indication of what's yet to come, then I'm gonna love sharing some great stories with you all as the months flow by. Do check in every month for my updates! Happy New Year to you all and thanks for stopping by to see and hear what's new in "rosie world". Cheers, rf

Summer of love

This is an exciting summer because I'm getting close to releasing 2 new cd's! For starters; FINALLY- Janis Martin's "The Blanco Sessions" will be hitting the streets with a release date on Sept. 18th on Cow Island Music! However, the kickstarter.com supporters will be getting their cd's and rewards 2 weeks before that and we so appreciate their patience, it's been an unbelievable ride. There was so much ground to cover and my team and I have worked very hard to complete this project. I'm really proud of the hard work that this team has put down and it is looking and sounding awesome. At the same time, I have been working towards finishing my newest Cd due out this Fall in October, self produced "Working Girls Guitar". This will be the first studio recording's where I have undertaken playing every single guitar part all by myself, it's a whole lotta rosie! There will be some exciting shows to come and see in your towns and looking forward to all the Janis CD release shows that we hope to make in your cities. When we show up to play I hope you will please come and pick up Janis's The Blanco Sessions, a poster or a t-shirt and some Rosie stuff too. You'll be glad you did, this new stuff rocks! Thanks for stopping by my new updated website and keep coming back for more news on what I'll be stirring up this summer and onward around these 2 fantastic releases! xo rosie

Rosie Update

Hello! Thanks for stoping by~
I've been hard at work this year finishing the final touches on the Janis Martin recording's which would not be possible without the kickstarter.com funding and a certain record label's involvement of which I will hopefully announce by name soon. The Cd's and Vinyl will be manufactured this Spring and are being mastered this month by Joe Gastwick in LA under the title "The Blanco Sessions". Producing this record in 2007 was a dream come true for me and drummer Bobby Trimble (Modern Don Juans, Big Sandy,The Ugly Beats). As many rockabilly fans know, Janis passed away shortly after she recorded the sessions in Blanco Texas, this was supposed to be her comeback CD. I had been coaxing her to record with me for 10 years! We are now getting close to releasing an amazing 11 song masterpiece of some of her favorite rock n roll songs that she hand picked. Together with Trimble we found some cool rock songs that she loved performing live. Some were originally recorded by the likes of Ruth Brown, Ronnie Dawson and Dave Alvin to name a few. The CD will be released to the public this spring after the kickstarter donaters are taken care of first. Finally her fans around the world will be able to hear her incredible vocals which are so chilling that it will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. I want other rock n roll female musicians to discover her vocals and songwriting so that they can be inspired as much as I was through the years.

Rosie Update

The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland was completely awesome to me this year when they invited me to bring in my multi media performance on January 25th with a 64 picture slide show of Janis' life. With a live band of stellar musicians featuring Marti Brom and myself on vocals, we had a blast telling stories about Janis and her life. In an era where Wanda Jackson, Jerry Lee, and Elvis were the kings and queens of early rock n roll, Janis (who was called The Female Elvis) was also a very integral part of the group of young artists who helped give birth to rock n roll back in the mid to late 1950's. I feel that it's so very important to help preserve her name as one of those early pioneers of female rockabilly and rock n roll by bringing this awesome recording out to her old fans as well as the new ones discovering her each and everyday. If you do not know about Janis Martin, I suggest that you take some time to google her and check her out on youtube and the internet to discover for yourself what made her a rare and special artist to the end.

Other news:I am in the middle of recording a brand new Rosie CD, i's a rocker and I hope to have it out this year, so keep checking back here to see when that will be released on Bloodshot Records. I'll be hitting the road to bring the Janis Tribute to a theater hopefully near you and will be performing with my band too. So please ck the tour dates here for more information. I will try to be better at keeping up here so thanks for stopping by my website as well as, FB, Twitter etc. to find out what's new and exciting this year. Keep the faith and stay true to yourself.
